Southern Stars

Mount St Thomas Public School has been a proud participant in Southern Stars for 25 years.

Students enjoy opportunities to learn and perform in dance, choir and drama.

School Band

Mount St Thomas Public School works in partnership with The Wollongong Conservatorium of Music (WollCon) to provide expert tuition in music as part of our school band program.

The beginner band (Years 3 and 4) and the concert band (years 5 and 6) practice weekly and perform often for our parents and school community.

Student Representative Council (SRC)

The School Representative Council (SRC) at our school consists of 32 dedicated students who work together to represent the voices of their peers.

The SRC organises fun events, supports fundraising activities, and promotes a positive and inclusive school environment. Through their leadership and teamwork, these students help create a welcoming community where everyone feels heard and valued.

Representative sport (PSSA)

Mount St Thomas Public School provides additional opportunities in sport each year through the Primary School Sports Association (PSSA).

Students can compete at high levels as individual athletes and/or as part of a range of school sporting teams.

Kindergarten Buddies Program

A highlight of their primary years, Year 5 students act as buddies to Kindergarten students, providing friendly support and guidance as they transition into school life.

This buddy system builds confidence in Kindergarten students and fosters positive relationships across year groups, creating a caring and supportive school community.

Through their role as buddies, Year 5 students develop leadership skills and a sense of responsibility while making a positive difference for their younger peers.

P&C and MTSO DAD's Events

We have an active and engaged P&C and an enthusiastic parent community who provide a range of opportunities and experiences for all students.

Events for students include Stay and Play afternoons, school fundraisers such as Colour Runs, Mother's and Father's Days Stalls, competitions, raffles, and fun, interactive experiences.

Debating & Public Speaking

Each year, Mount St Thomas Public School students participate in the Premier's Debating Challenge, the Wollongong Network Public Speaking Competition and the Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition.

School Choirs

Mount St Thomas Public School proudly boasts a K-2 and a 3-6 choir, who proudly represent the school at a range of events, including the Southern Illawarra Music Festival.

Technology and Robotics

We promote the integration of technology, coding, and robotics to foster critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving.

Embracing digital literacy ensures students are confident, adaptable, and ready to innovate in an increasingly technology-driven society.

Our First Lego League team, the 'Mountso Makers' have competed successfully in the FLL competition since 2018.

High Potential and Gifted Programs

We provide a range of opportunities across the four high potential domains (intellectual, creative, social-emotional, and physical).

This includes challenging academic programs, creative arts activities, leadership and social skills development, and physical education or sports programs. By offering diverse experiences, we support each student to reach their full potential.
